Sales Engineer

Location: Cincinnati, OH
The Sales Engineer shall be responsible for the initiating, developing and maintaining of long term relationships with customers and estimating, budgeting, scheduling and management of engineering projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Manage assigned accounts we are currently doing business with.
  2. Increase the dollar volume of sales with assigned accounts we are currently doing business with.
  3. Actively prospect and book work with companies we are not doing business with.
  4. Develop relationships with assigned and new accounts. 
  5. Maintain and grow sales volume, meet sales goals per measurable below.
  6. Spend and optimal amount of time in the office, maximize your time out of the office.  8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. in front of customers.  Afternoons in the office on estimating, proposals, phone calls, market research, infrastructure and background tasks.
  7. Estimating.  Acquire skills in conducting a take-off from bid specifications & drawings, estimating all aspects of labor, material and subcontracting.
  8. Initiate, develop and maintain long-term relationships with customers.
  9. Book work consistent company expertise, corporate goals and objectives, and the short term and long term backlog needs.  Focus on longer-term design & build contracts.
  10. Do not discount, and if and as possible within staffing and business constraints, book Schedule of Fees labor contracts.
 Project Management 
  1. Schedule and chair project kick off meetings for all jobs you sell, with customer and internally.  Address tangible and intangible aspects and matters.
  2. Prepare and submit job budgets.
  3. Be point with customers, written and verbal, on all matters concerning scope and schedule, dollars and cents.
  4. Maintain close knowledge of: project status, design status, documentation status, deliverables, shippers and transmittals, staffing, costs, performance to budget, margins and schedule.
  5. Actively participate in problem resolution, steps to maximize margin, expedite method, practice and procedure, and ensure quality.
  6. As necessary, schedule and effect project review meetings with customers and internally.
  7. Maintain knowledge of status of your commercial job files.
  8. Participate in job closure meetings.
  9. Attend weekly staff meetings and report of sales activity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Background in Sales & Marketing
  2. Prior experience in engineering, automation, controls or integrations required
  3. Capable of Strategic & Tactical Planning & Execution
  4. Skilled in Public Speaking & Business/Technical Writing 
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
  1. University Graduate in Engineering and/or Business.
  2. Established network of professional contacts in markets and/or geographical area
  3. Demonstrated background in leadership
